Sun- less Summer? Say no more! Philadelphia wedding and Event Planner- Angela MALICKI events

Heavens to betsey! Summer has finally arrived, one of my favorite parts about the summer is tanning and the beach! But it’s important to practice safe sun! There are many misconceptions about self tanning, especially spray tanning. The days of looking like an oompa loompa are over- unless you didn’t  follow the directions or your 10 year old sister helped you out . Instead of hitting the tanning bed (which causes wrinkles, dry skin and damage long term) try spray tanning before your wedding day, girls night out, prom or just because- guys, this includes you too:)

Contact our girls Alexa  or Anna , owners of Luminosity tanning ( they offer teeth whitening too) , for an appointment. Luminosity offers  custom airbrush tanning ( a Technician uses an airbrush machine and  customizes your tan by color) or booth spray tanning( easy peezy quick 6 seconds of your life)  both methods are safe and last for a week. Custom airbrush is Ang’s favorite!

I got the chance to interview Anna Kelly, co-owner of Luminosity.

Below is a quick Q & A that may just have the answer to all your questions.

Q: What do I wear for my tan?

A: For the clothing before and after your tan, wear loose, dark fitting clothing with loose footwear such as flip flops.

Q: What are some products for sunless tanning and what is the preparation/aftercare?

A: Prep and aftercare are crucial to the life of your sunless tan.

PREPERATION: Before your tan you should, up to 24 hours in advance, shower, shave and fully exfoliate your skin. This will remove all dry flaky skin and leave healthy skin cells to absorb the tan.  Clean, dry skin, without any makeup, moisturizers or deodorant is best.

AFTERCARE:After your sunless tanning session you should not get wet, shower or sweat for a minimum of 6-8 hours. This includes showers, pools, sweating, rain, mani/pedis etc. After your first shower, start moisturizing!

Keep the skin hydrated at all times. Avoid body cleanser or moisturizer with any exfoliates, a high alcohol and fragrance content, or oils as these strip your sunless tan faster. Do not use loofahs or rough wash clothes and make sure you gently pat dry with your towel after bathing. Any soap or lotion labeled “paraben free” is best for prolonging your tan.

You can still have sexy tan lines. Photo by luminosity

Q: When is it OK to tan before the big wedding, prom, formal, etc?

A: We recommend doing your airbrush tan 1 or 2 days before your event. The color will last 5-8 days on average. We also always suggest a trial to be done weeks before your event so you can try out the tan. This way you will know if you want to go darker, lighter etc. for the actual event.

Q: Is it good to tan for your wedding or be all natural?

A: We suggest a light, natural airbrush tan for all of our brides. It’s amazing what a little color can do! Nobody wants to look fake tan in their wedding pictures, but a healthy glow is a must.

Q: Do you condone self-tanning?

A: We absolutely support sunless tanning! It’s our mission to provide a SAFE and HEALTHY way to get the natural sun kissed glow while avoiding harmful UV rays. These harmful rays come from the sun and UV tanning beds.

Q: What are the side effects?

A: There are no adverse side effects with sunless tanning, we even carry organic solution.  We do provide all of the safety options you may use to make your tan safe, and successful.

Go Green This Spring – Philadelphia Wedding and Event Planner – Angela MALICKI events

Happy (belated) St. Patrick’s Day!

This celebrated Irish day is recognized everywhere from Australia to Japan, so why not add a little green to your day today? In honor of this splendid, over-the-top holiday of St. Patrick’s day, lets discuss a little bit about what is going to be (and already has been) seen a lot in the fashion world this season: you guessed it, the color green.

This color is so versatile that you can have a completely different effect on your wardrobe just based on what colors or accessories you pair it with. Many brides love the earthy tones and peacefulness that go hand in hand with green. Outdoor wedding? Showcase the beautiful green trees by stringing lights throughout the branches. Indoor wedding? Bring nature indoors with an assortment of large blooming showers decorated by their green foliage. There are so many subtle ways of including the color green to really showcase other elements of your wedding: guests’ tables, the hors d’oeuvres section, take home goodie bags, the list is endless!

I’m sure you all were decked out in your favorite green attire Saturday, and so were some of our favorite celebrities. Kate Middleton looked beautiful (as usual) in a forest green coat dress with black pumps and matching black belt. Is there any thing she can’t pull off?? And even the little starlets are getting into the green action. Will Smith’s daughter, Willow, was seen walking in the streets of NYC shopping with her mother, with green hair. Everyone who’s anyone knows what the color can do to add a little more fun to your daily routine outfit or create an instantly classic look.

Loving the green fashion for 2012.

This color is fabulous because it can range anywhere from an Oscar-worthy, elegant emerald gown to a casual, laid-back T that adds a pop of color to go with any pair of jeans. And speaking of the Oscar’s, many famous celebrities were seen wearing the hottest shades of the color at the 2012 Academy Awards including: nominee Viola Davis wearing a gorgeous deep amethyst color Vera Wang strapless gown, nominee Glenn Close adorned in a dark forest green Zac Posen tight-knit dress with matching blazer, and Maria Menounos looking like a Greek goddess in a sea-foam green, flowing Maria Lucia Hohan design.

Looking for a more wearable way to showcase this color? How about a pair of bright, mint green jean shorts paired with a flowy white shirt and leather belt? Mint green will be popping up in almost all genres of fashion this summer. You will see the color being added to chunky bangles for an extra pop of color or large cocktail rings. Regardless, with a long, hot summer stretched out before us, you will definitely be able to add a cool, refreshing color like this to your wardrobe.

How about if you want to add a little pop of color to your daily routine without buying a new outfit? One of the hottest 2012 trends is a soft green nail polish. “2012 is all about the color green,” says Essie founder Essie Weingarten. “There’s something really special about it, so you’re going to see a lot of it”. You will see everything from a cool, crisp blue-green that pairs excellently with that fresh-from-the-beach tan, to the more subdued pistachio/olive tones. Either on your fingers or on your toes the right shade of green can catch anyone’s attention. Be on the lookout for Essie’s new color that came out in February called “Navigate Her” or Butter London’s “Slapper”, a fun teal that would be perfect with an eyelet dress and your favorite pair of wedges.

Another trend that has been seen everywhere from your neighborhood to the high-end fashion runway is color blocking. Green looks fabulous paired with a a bright red/orange or even some purple jewel tones. My favorite look was Camilla Belle’s Gucci ensemble showcasing a deep purple shirt under an orange blazer with high waisted, tapered green pants. You can also “spice up” an ordinary jean and t-shirt ensemble with a cute pair of pumps! Via Spiga ‘Dale’ Wedge in “grass” might just be the perfect summer wedge you’ve been looking for.

This post was brought to you by: the color green.

xoxo-

Rachel

Ditching work to see the “Boss” – Philadelphia Wedding Planner – Angela MALICKI events

It’s summertime! That means the busiest time of the year for us wedding planners, but I decided to play hooky for a day and take a day trip! No, not to NYC or some shopping outlets but rather to Hoboken, NJ to Carlo’s Bakery, better know as Cake Boss!

I have been dying to go see the bakery since the showed aired and decided this was the perfect sunny day to wait in line. Back in November I saw Buddy “The Cake Boss” downtown while he was on his “Bakin’ with the Boss” tour. He is just as funny and personable as in the show! Luckily, I had an aisle seat so I was able to actually touch him and be up close and personal! The show was mostly geared toward kids but I am a big kid myself, so I really enjoyed it. Buddy talked about his family history and how Carlo’s Bakery started. He is definitely your typical Italian family man! The show was an absolute blast and he got much of the audience involved.

Picture 168

carlos bakery - buddy

Buddy, during the show, showing off his cake decorating skills.

If you have never been to Hoboken it really is a cute little town with lots of great resturants on the water. (It’s known to have the most bars in a square mile). My family and I ate at a great Irish pub called Trinity – the food was amazing and authentic! Soon after we made our way over to Washington Street (now named Carlo’s Bakery Way) to get in line. The hardest part was finding a parking spot! It is almost as bad as the city. We walked up to the store front to find only about 10 people in line – I was shocked! But little did we know, majority of the line was in the next block down. During the filming of TLC’s Cake Boss, they do not allow huge crowds outside the store front. The line was almost a whole block long! Waiting was not bad at all – we talked to people and checked out the scenery.

Picture 171
The excitment built as we got closer to the door and finally it was our turn! The “doorman” as I called him, only allows a few people in at a time, once other customers leave. Yet once the door opened and we stepped inside, we had another long line to wait in! You wait outside all that time, thinking right when you go in you will be waited on – not so true. Once inside, you are given a number (kinda like the lunch meat counter) and have atleast another 40 people in front of you. It was so crowded in there I could barely see what was in the cases, good thing I know what they have from watching the show! I knew I already had my stomach set on canoli’s, lobster tails and crumb cake! Besides that, we also got pecan sticky buns, and red velvet cupcakes. I could of got one of everything that I saw but I didn’t want to over-indulge. They bake anything you could possibly think of!

Best of all, we got a surprise appearance by Buddy himself! When your in the bakery you can see the steps that lead from the back door to the upstairs bakery and when customers spotted Buddy, people went nuts! After chanting his name, he came down to say hi to everyone. He thanked all of us for coming and supporting him – very nice! TLC was filming that day, so he had to go back up and finish his project – a cow cake!

Buddy

Taking pictures inside was quite difficult due to the large crowd of people. Basically you walk in with two cases on each side with all the goodies. So if you want to see what it really looks like – take a trip yourself, it’s worth it!

Picture 176Finally! Happy as can be with all of our treats!

We weren’t out of the bakery for a minute and we were already ripping open the boxes! Of course everyone in line wants to see what you got, but my mouth was already full of desserts! I first had a canoli which was delicious to say the least! Then I dove into the red velvet cupcake with cream cheese icing – amazing! Literally the freshest baked goods I have had in a while!

Picture 179

Picture 180Lobster tails to die for! They are a thin cream filled pastry – it seemed to be one of the hottest items.

Picture 181The box does not lie – it is love at first bite!

Picture 184Close to two inches thick of crumb cake! Sooo good with a glass of milk.

The ride from Philly is a little under two hours and an easy day trip for some amazing desserts! Of course, Buddy is most famous for making outrageous cakes, but I give his baked goods an A+. Maybe one day I can afford a cake!

2011 Celebrity Weddings, who doesn’t love to dream! – Philadelphia Wedding and Event Planner – Angela MALICKI events

We all know the big wedding of the year was, of course, the Royal Wedding – but there are plenty of other A-list celebs that tied the knot! So we wanted to recap for you some of the other  festivities that took place this year thus far. This mid-year review will put us in a good position for our end of the year recap. Check out our blog post from last year’s nuptials and split-skis

Bertinelli

Valerie Bertinelli and Tom Vitale – After dating for more than six years they decided to tie the knot in their Malibu home on New Year’s Day with close friends and family. Her dress was designed exclusively by David Meister, whom I had the pleasure meeting a few years ago at a private event.  One guest that will remain near and dear to her heart, Eddie Van Halen, married for 25 years. was front and center while Val and Tom were exchanging their vows. I guess Valerie will take “One Day at a Time”. I wonder what their first song was – Can’t stop loving you, I doubt it!!!

Twain

Shania Twain and Fred Thiebaud – Another celeb wedding took place on New Year’s Day in Puerto Rico with only 40 guests during a sunset ceremony on the beach. Shania’s nine year old son walked her down the aisle. She wore Calvin Klein shoes with a dress from a small store in Switzerland. Thanks heavens it wasn’t the uber tight and sexy leopard catsuit she wore in her 1998 music video “That don’t impress me much” After the ceremony, Shania sang at her own reception!

Grammer

Kelsey Grammer and Kayte Walsh – Although this couple has nearly 26 years in between them, they wed at the Longacre Theater on February 25th in New York City (far from his Beverly Hills ex, Camille.) The reception followed at the Plaza Hotel with a mix of Hollywood and Uptown style. Maybe four times the charm for Kelsey! Love the Gold Manolos!

Reese-witherspoon-300Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth – This gorgeous couple wed on March 26th on Libbey Ranch in Ojai, California with nearly 100 guests. Monique Lhuillier designed the wedding dress with Jimmy Choo sandals. Some of the guests included Sean Penn, Scarlett Johansson, Tobey Maguire, Renee Zellweger, Robert Downey Jr. and Alyssa Milano.

Buble-wedding_290Michael Bublé and  Luisana Lopilato – They first exchanged vows in a civil ceremony in Buenos Aires, Argentina on March 31st.  A few days later the couple celebrated with a 300 guest reception at a private mansion. The bride was seen wearing a satin gown featuring a plunging neckline and tiered skirt by Argentinean designer Sylvie Burstin and Christian Louboutin (one of our fav designers) heels. Their second celebration took place in Canada on May 20th at the Pan Pacific Hotel with another 500 guests!

Leann-rimes-300Leann Rimes and Eddie Cibrian – Surprise! That is what happened to the 40 guests who arrived to the ‘engagement party” or so they thought on April 22nd in Malibu. It turned out that the couple would actually wed that day in a private ceremony. The very un-traditional couple were together nearly all day getting ready and sipping cocktails before their vows. Leann wore a Reem Acra gown and looked stunning!

Lamas

Lorenzo Lamas and Shawna Craig – On April 30th 53 year old  Renegade Star, wed his much younger lady (even one year younger than his own daughter and Bachelor finalist) at the Casa Dorada Resort in Cabo San Lucas. Shortly after the ceremony, Lorenzo took his new bride on a jetski for a ride before the reception, I guess the LOVE BOAT was not available that day. This is Lorenzo’s fifth marriage! Seriously, this guys has been around for a LONG time – a few noted shows he was on – Love Boat, Falcons Crest, Bold and the Beautiful and ofcouse the Renegade.

Marie-osmond-4-440
Marie Osmond and Stephen Craig – Yes, they wed for the second time! The couple shared vows on May 4th at the Mormon Temple in Vegas. The reception followed at their Nevada home, where Marie wore the same dress as their first marriage. I wonder what their first dance was – the cha-cha, the paso or perhaps the two step???

Miranda-lambert-marries-blake-shelton-in-moms-wedding-dress__oPtMiranda Lambert and Blake Shelton – This country singing powerhouse couple tied the knot on May 14th at Don Strange Ranch in Boerne, Texas. Miranda wore her mother’s wedding gown, then later changed in another gown and Blake wore blue jeans! Some of the 550 guests included Katherine Heigl, Josh Kelley, Reba McEntire, Dierks Bentley, Laura Bell Bundy, Cee Lo Green, Martina McBride, and Kelly Clarkson. If you haven’t seen their wedding pics, they are fabulous and the details – STUNNING!

Sara_rue_kevin_price_weddingSara Rue and Kevin Price – Shedding for the Wedding is an understatement! Sara looked amazing in her Amsale gown on her wedding on May 21st in Pacific Palisades, California. It was a traditional Jewish wedding, with Jewish dishes and two wedding cakes! I think the diet plan fell out the window for one day

Tony-romo-300Tony Romo and Candice Crawford – The most recent celeb wedding took place on May 28th in Dallas, Texas (surprise). Of course, Jerry Jones was there along with many past and present Cowboys players. The couple exchanged vows under a tent at Arlington Hall with 600 guests watching. I guess Jessica Simpson did not get the invite! The guests received custom gift bags that included a Neiman Marcus gift card, assorted treats from Great One Cookies, a miniature bottle of Moet champagne, a box of Dude Sweet Chocolates, gourmet popcorn, chips and salsa, “Killer Pecans” from Bandera Foods, Voss bottled water, and an assortment of Kiehl’s beauty and body product – talk about swag!! -” THESE ARE A FEW OF MY FAVORITE THINGS” – as Julie Andrews is singing in the background

So who is next, Kim Kardashian and Kris Humpries? Will Hugh Hefner ever actually marry Crystal Harris? You also have Paul McCartney and Nancy Shevell. Who do you think will make it to the alter first?

xoxo

Katrina and Scott, Part One – Philadelphia Wedding and Event Planner – Angela MALICKI events

Trina4
We met Trina and Scott last year right when they became newly engaged. Their planning started right away and we are thrilled to be a part of that process. The couple will wed next week on Saturday May28th, ceremony will take place at The Tenth on Delancy and the Reception at the Crystal Tea Room in the Wanamaker Building. I always ask my clients, “So, how did you guys meet”? I have heard it all kinds of stories, funny, happy, and emotional. I usually write a little bio on each couple, but this time, I left it to them. Enjoy their wonderful story and how they came to be.

Trina1

The first time we met was at the rehearsal for the wedding of my college friend and her college roommate in July 2006.  We were both in the wedding party, and we were paired to walk together.  Despite the fact that we each knew the bride and groom very well, we had never been introduced.  We casually flirted a bit that night, and then continued our flirtation the following night at the wedding (where Trina engineered the order of the wedding party so that she and I would be ensured of walking together).  After all, I escorted the lady down the aisle — I could at least be a gentleman and show her a good time.  From that point on, we were virtually inseparable.
After almost 4 years together in June of last year, I came home early one day, prepared our favorite meal, turned down the lights, lit candles, and waited.  When Trina came home, I got down on one knee, read her a poem I’d written, presented her with the ring and asked her to marry me.  She said yes, and now we’re looking forward to a long, happy and blessed life together!

Get Your Royal Wedding Fix – not me!!!!! – Philadelphia Wedding and Event Planner – Angela MALICKI events

Can you believe how royal that wedding was? We know you have seen the videos and pictures – but what did you think? We thought the wedding was absolutely amazing and best of all, it went off without a hitch! The royal wedding of course marks an important time in history, but also an important time in fashion history!

This wedding marked the 16th royal wedding to be held at Westminster Abbey. There was 1,900 people inside the Abbey for the ceremony, with many guests from around the world. Roughly 44 royals from different countries were invited to the ceremony and had prime seating near the Queen, the Middleton’s and the Spencer’s. Only a few celebrities received a royal invitation including the Beckham’s, Elton John and his partner David Furnish, Joss Stone, Tara Palmer Tomkinson and Guy Ritchie.

Nearly one million people lined the streets of London to catch a glimpse of the royals and a few million more would watch on television. Guests started arriving at the Abbey as early as 9am and continued through the 10 o’clock hour.

Backams Tara
The Beckham’s (on left) arrived at the Abbey very early. Victoria wore a dress from her own collection, Christian Louboutin platform pumps and a Philip Treacy hat; while David looked PHENOM in his Ralph Lauren suit. Seriously, HOTTTT!!!! Tara Palmer Tomkinson (right), who is an English socialite, wore a bright blue ensemble including a Philip Treacy hat. OMG, her Blue Louboutins are killer, Ang will probably call her personal shopper at Neimans for those to add to her collection!

Most guests arrived in style with toppers and fascinators on head – all of which we love! Although it seemed as if Samantha Cameron, the British Prime Ministers wife, forgot her fascinator! There of course were a few oddballs (Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice) but overall style was great! There seemed to be many bright colors including purples, pinks and oranges. Many of the guests did make some fashion statements, but lets be honest – who were you all really look at? The wedding party, the Royal family and the Middleton’s.

First to arrive were the Princes, William and Harry.  We have seen these two at all sorts of affairs since they were young boys but it was at the wedding, they both seemed so grown up. William looked strikingly similar to his late mother, Princess Diana and Harry looking dapper with his full head of red hair. The Princes left the Clarence House at 10:12am and arrived right around 10:18am at Westminster Abbey in their uniforms. Prince William, now Duke of Cambridge, was seen wearing his Irish Guards Uniform, since he is the Colonel of the Irish Guards. Prince Harry chose to wear his Captain of the Household Cavalry Uniform to the royal ceremony.
Princes
Both William and Harry seemed relaxed and full of smiles. Once inside the Abbey they were greeted by the Dean and escorted down the aisle by Stephen Lamport, Prince Charles’s former private secretary. Prince William immediately greeted members of his mother’s family, which is a true testament of how present Princess Diana’s spirit was at the Abbey.

Next in line was the “mums” – Carole Middleton, Camilla and the Queen. Carole Middleton wore Catherine Walker, who ironically was Princess Diana’s favorite designer. She wore a light blue almost gray dress and fitted coat with satin piping and braiding. Camilla chose a two toned Anna Valentine dress and long coat. The Queen wore bright yellow, a bit unexpected, with matching hat and purse. (What does the Queen even need to carry in that purse?) All the ‘mums’ looked fabulous and regal.
Royal mums

Next to arrive was Pippa and the mini attendants. Pippa wore a Sarah Burton gown, which was exquisitely done and looked amazing on her.The children included Margarita Armstrong-Jones, Tom Pettifer, Lady Louise Windsor, William Lowther-Pinkerton, Grace van Cutsem, and Eliza Lopes. The little ladies wore Nicki MacFarlance handmade gowns and the boys wore red uniforms which mimicked Foot Guards during the Regency era.
Pippadress
Mini

Last but certainly not least is Kate Middleton’s dress designed by Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen, was flawless! Her dress was elegant but sexy and matched her personality to a T. The now “Duchess of Cambridge” walked down the aisle in a white and ivory satin gazar gown with English and French lace covering the bodice, skirt and underskirt. Flowers including rose, thistle, daffodil and shamrocks were hand cut from lace to create the dress design. The back of her dress featured 58 covered buttons with rouleau loops with a nearly 9 foot train. (We also couldn’t help but notice how similar Kate’s dress was to Grace Kelly’s gown when she married Prince Rainier of Manaco.) Her crown was a halo tiara borrowed from the Queen, made by Cartier in 1936. The crown was originally a gift to the Queen Mum from King George VI, and was then passed to Queen Elizabeth (Princess at the time) on her 18th birthday. Her modest veil was made of silk tulle with hand-embroidered flowers just sheer enough to see the brides face. Kate’s earrings were a present from her parents, and designed after the Middleton coat of arms featuring oakleaf and acorn shapes made by Robinson Pelham. Although we didn’t see much of her shoes, they were also hand made by McQueen. Kate held a small bouquet made of ivy, hyacinth, lily of the valley, and sprig of myrtle from Queen Victoria’s wedding. And if you were wondering what polish Kate had on her nails, it was ‘allure’ by Essie, which I’m sure is sold out by now.
Kate and pippa 2
This was the exact moment when Kate revealed her dress to the world. She gracefully stepped out of the 1977 Rolls Royce Phantom at exactly 11:00am to display her royal wedding gown.

Soon after she arrived, Kate walked down the aisle to her Prince. William waited until Kate stood beside him, to see his bride for the first time. You could see the emotion all over William’s face as he whispered to Kate “you look beautiful.” William even was seen nervously biting on his lip (as his mother did) during the ceremony. The couple exchanged vows and quickly became the Duke & Duchess of Cambridge.
Royal exitThe new couple would take the famous carriage ride to Buckingham Palace and officially greet London on the balcony for the royal kiss (or two).
KissThe official wedding photographs took place inside the Palace, which would be followed by a reception hosted by the Queen.
OFFICIAL-ROYAL-WEDDING-PHOTO

After much celebration and photos, the couples close family and friends partied late into the night, as Prince Harry hosted a party for the couple. The Queen left shortly after her party to allow some real partying to begin.

RecepPrince William, Kate and Pippa had a costume change for the reception parties. They look fabulous, maybe even more fabulous than the wedding! We absolutely love Kate’s dress and mini sweater along with Pippa’s silk green dress with a plunging neckline!

Although there hasn’t been any reports of royal hangovers, we can only imagine how late or early into the morning Harry’s party went!

We felt like royalty watching this wedding and it will be the talk of the century, that is, if Harry gets married soon. I thought that him and Pippa looked kinda cute together!!!!.
