Katherine + Andrew – Hotel Monaco Philadelphia – Old St. Mary’s – Philadelphia Wedding And Event Planner – Angela MALICKI Events

With this cold weather hitting us, it’s nice to look back on the weddings we had the opportunity to work on this past summer. It was a beautiful June day when the lovely couple Katherine and Andrew became husband and wife. The couple, along with the bridal party, started at Hotel Monaco in Old City getting ready for their special day. Everybody looked amazing and filled the day with celebration and happiness for the newly weds. Katie’s Romana Kreveza gown fit her beautifully and matched perfectly with the bridesmaids short lavender dresses.

As Katie and her bridesmaids were finishing up getting ready with Eric, I was over with Andrew and the groomesmen pinning boutineers for my first time ( successfully did not poke anybody)! The groomesmen and I arrived first at Old St. Mary’s Church with transportation provided by King’s Limo. With the guests settled and bridal party all lined up, it was time to start the ceremony! Andrew stood at the alter with his groomesmen smilling ear to ear as he watched Katherine and her father walk slowly down the aisle – it was truly beautiful!

After the ceremony, the couple and bridal party headed to Washington Sqaure Park for pictures with Joe Foley Photography. The rest of the guests headed over to the Stratus Lounge at Hotel Monaco for a cocktail hour to enjoy delicious appetizers and refreshments while looking over Philadelphia on a rooftop. CTO Artists provided the guests with a beautiful string arrangement to help set the mood. I went with the couple and Joe Foley Photography to City Hall for some finals shots as the bridal party joined the rest of the guests. Everybody passing by the newly weds shouted a “Congratulations!” making the day even more merry.

The ballroom turned out looking absolutely breathtaking with the help of Angela and Hotel Monaco. The color theme consisted of a light purple, ivory, and black. A Modern Touch florist provided the center pieces with white and pink roses along with purple peonies – they really brought the room together! Ciao Bella Cakes made a delicious five tier cake that had flowers which matched the center pieces. At the end of dinner, each table was given a tray of delectable italian cookies from the brides mother Gabbie. Outside of the ballroom had a table set up with family photos for guests to view as they walked into the reception area.

The couple really pumped up the party when they entered the reception to the song Bring Em Out by TI! DJ Bizz kept the dance floor moving and grooving all night long. Katie slipped on her custom Tom’s for some fun dancing. It was such a pleasure to see the newly weds so happy and celebrating with their loved ones!

Demetra and Anthony – Greek Wedding – Estia – Philadelphia Wedding and Event Planner – Angela MALICKI events

Saturday September 22nd couldn’t have been any better – the weather was perfect, sun was shining and Demetra and Anthony were hours from getting married! Ashley, my beautiful Senior Assistant was there Day of and I, her lovely assistant – yes, I do assist my assistants.

We started our day at the Independence on Locust Street (if you haven’t been there – you have to check it out, they have a great restaurant too),where we met our gorgeous couple during preps and I have to tell you – Ash and I were emotional – in a good way – we have grown very close to this couple, it felt like our sister was getting married.

Demetra looked amazing, fresh-faced and cool as a cucumber in her crisp white monogrammed woven, her make up and hair done to perfection and she was ready to slip in her stunning lace Allure Couture gown. I loved her custom crystal adorned pink heels and vintage crystal cuff. The bridal suite had a banner hanging – “Love is Sweet “, which was the theme carried throughout the wedding. The flowers were amazing – all designed and grown locally by Love n’ Fresh Flowers. We knew that Jenny (owner) and Demetra would be a great fit. Incorporated in the bouquet was lace from Demetra’s mothers wedding gown, Anthony’s grandmothers pearls and a small ceramic pic of her mom. After the ceremony, Demetra would replace her gorg veil with a fresh gardenia which her father also wore – another sweet detail – literally!

The bridesmaids all dress in Ballerina Pink Satin gowns, and the groomsmen Tan suits – perfect choice for September. Demetra dressed and ready to go, we were on our way to the church. What I loved about this wedding, the entire bridal party walked to church separately, then Demetra and Anthony met for a first look on a beautiful cobble stone lined street. It was a special moment that was shared with the couple and their phenomenal photographer – Ash Imagery.

St. George Greek Orthodox cathedral was as gorgeous as I remember it -Todd and I married there 5 years ago. Demetra’s dad was waiting for her at the top of the steps.  Another touching moment! They had a lovely Greek ceremony with 145 guests watching every moment – if you’ve never been to a Greek ceremony -it’s a long one, 1 hour-long.

We walked to Estia, their reception location on the Avenue of the Arts, their theme was vintage with a Greek twist. Love n’ Fresh flowers designed all flowers and utilized Demetra’s vintage finds for the containers.

Demetra had amazing details throughout the wedding. Vintage windowpanes donning family photographs, pictures of her mother on her wedding day, another sweet touch- Demetra wore her mother’s gown at their rehearsal. I loved their favors – traditional Greek Jordan Almond candies in lace sacks tied with pink ribbon and dried babies breath nestled in a vintage suitcase placed next to a chalkboard designed tray.

Their cake was a traditional French Croquembouche with a small lace designed cake for cutting. My favorite detail and most sentimental one was a custom designed – with love – wooden box made by her father. It was given to the couple with a bottle of wine and their toasting glasses. They utilized this box as an advice box for guests. I love this idea and most of all, the sweet message inscribed by her dad The seating chart was a chalkboard in a heavy painted frame. I wrote out all the names in white marker in alphabetical order.

The couple surprised the guests with a choreographed first dance – the best I’ve seen in years. What’s a Greek wedding without Greek dancing, all the guests were on the dancefloor the whole time non stop. I might have danced a bit too 🙂

It was an absolute pleasure working with Demetra and Anthony on their wedding day. Hope you had a great time in Bali!

Bring back the Vintage Glam – Philadelphia Wedding and Event Planner – Angela MALICKI events

Winter fashion/decor trends of this season is VINTAGE! Vintage inspired looks are sophisticated, yet trendy and chic at the same time. This is the answer for brides on a small budget or that fashionista channeling old hollywood glam. Family heirlooms as staple pieces enhance the theme of this Depression Era trend. Tea length dresses are also on trend for their versatility and help brides on a tight budget.

The color palette for winter is dark and flattering, bridesmaids will look amazing in rich colors like dark chocolate, charcoal gray, brick red, amazon green, mocha, and deep orange. These colors look great for the wedding but also be fabulous for other special occasions. What bridesmaid doesn’t love hearing that? Brides will also see a lot more soft fabrics such as tulle, lace, raw silks. Texture is an upcoming popular trend for bridal wear in 2010/2011.

Designers have created looks with over exhaturated necklines, hems and embellishments. This trend will not only be shown on gowns but also seen at their receptions. Textures like added ruffles, feathers, lace and jewels enhance the layering of fabrics on table linens will give heightened depth to each table-scape. Mixing heights, shapes, and sizes of tables will also be present this coming season.
